In October 2009, an SPE Forum Series meeting was held in Cadiz, Spain entitled “Getting to Robust Production Forecasts.” Discussions covered all aspects of production forecasting, from short-term forecasts for operational decisions through medium- and long-term field forecasts to portfolio management and planning at a national level, but no clear consensus emerged on the definition of a “good” production forecast..
This reprint is intended to address that need by offering best practice guidelines for the main areas of production forecasting; the papers in each section illustrate and address the key issues of production forecasting for a particular part of the industry.
Sections include: What is a Good Production Forecast? • Production Engineer and Operational Field Management • Reservoir Management and Field Reserves • Production Forecasts and Financial Decision Making • Forecasts for National and International Bodies.
