As you add items to your cart, you will see them listed on the right side of your screen. At the bottom of this mini-cart view is a Checkout Now button.
When you select Checkout Now, you will be prompted to login. The SPE Bookstore uses the SPE.org login. If you don't already have an SPE login, see the section on creating a login below.
After logging in, you will confirm your billing address (and shipping address, if different). Select your preferred shipping method/cost. A short summary of your order is shown. If you have a coupon code, there will be a box in the right column where you can enter it.
You can elect to save your order as a quote or Pay Now. If you elect to Pay Now, you can use a credit card or gift certificate, or supply information about a payment by check (in US Dollars only) or wire transfer. Orders paid by credit card or gift certificate generally ship in 1-2 business days. Orders paid by check or wire transfer will be shipped after payment receipt is confirmed. You will receive an email when your order is shipped.
NOTE: For orders outside the US, DHL requires a company name. Enter "none" if there is not a company name associated with the address.
Customers are responsible for any applicable customs duties associated with their shipment. Customs requirements and fees vary by country and SPE cannot estimate these for you. Customs clearance for shipped goods is the sole responsibility of the customer.
Creating a login for the site
The SPE Bookstore uses single sign-on with the SPE website. So any login for the SPE website will also work in the bookstore. If you do not already have a login:
- Click the Login button in the header
- Select New User Registration
- Enter a little bit of information about yourself (name, address, email). Your login will be your email address.
- Set up a password and security question. Passwords must be between 4 and 20 characters, but can otherwise be anything you choose to make it easy to remember.
Why do I have to create a login to checkout?
Much of the functionality of the bookstore — tracking orders, getting quotes, special pricing for SPE members or other groups, real-time shipping costs — requires customer-specific information. This means there are many reasons why activity needs to be tied to a specific login. The biggest advantage is to allow you to track the status of your order through the online store. You can also maintain an address book with different shipping locations (if sometimes you send books to your home address or to someone else). With a login to the bookstore, we can serve you better and you can do more things without having to contact a customer service representative.
