Description

Each year, SPE surveys its professional members to benchmark global compensation trends in the industry. The 2017 SPE Membership Salary Survey Data File is a sample of self-reported information from petroleum industry professionals worldwide. This year's participants are based in 81 countries and 39 US states. Their employers are based in 82 countries.

Invitations to participate in the 2017 SPE Membership Salary Survey were sent to 88,322 professional members via email. By the close of the survey on 14 August 2017, 4,106 members responded for a response rate of 4.6%, of whom 2,841 provided valid region and compensation data, resulting in a 3.2% final response rate and a completion rate of 69%. This sample of completed responses produces a margin of error of ±1.81% at a 95% confidence level. Salary information and other data in the reports are entirely self-reported, as we rely on members to provide information to help us better understand the condition of the industry. It is not a definitive source of data for making compensation decisions, but it can be a useful reference where sufficient data exists.
